NOTE - New site being put together, please note some (most at the moment!) of the site won't work for a while. Email does work.

Welcome to this new site (currently being assembled) for the Ashford Cardiac Support Group.

This group is a purely non-profit making group run almost entirely by volunteers, dedicated to helping the many people who have been diagnosed with or are already receiving treatment for cardiac related medical problems, we would welcome any support you may be able to give us. Your family and friends are welcome to join you at these meetings as well.

The group meet on a Wednesday evening of every other month (see Events Calendar) at the Education Centre at Ashford Hospital, meetings start at 7.30pm and generally continue to around 10.00 pm.

Talks from invited speakers are often arranged on subjects from diet control, exercise and the benefits, items of local and social and/or special interest along with information about the leading advances in the treatment for our related medical conditions.

During these evening meetings one of the main aims is to get people together to enable them to discuss their own experiences while undergoing cardiac problems/treatment. Very often we get most satisfaction from talking to others with similar problems, this often leads to allaying fears about what we should/could or can do, sometimes leaving out the can’t do aspects. There is nearly always a raffle draw, with gifts donated by members, along with light refreshments for a small cost. These last couple of points follow the speaker and are a great time to talk amongst yourselves about things that concern or interest you.

Special events, not only help the group to purchase better rehabilitation equipment, but allows the group an opportunity to socialise with others who share similar conditions, whilst taking on a cardiovascular activity. Every Christmas we have a ‘party’ type event near to the end of our pre-Christmas sessions with bigger and more raffle prizes, many donated from local businesses cajoled into giving them by one of our more active committee members.

Support for the group does mean we have to spend some money on the organisation but the main aim is, apart from the social aspect, raising money to help provide some equipment that will help others when attending the gym during their own recovery period.

Thanks for reading these pages; we hope to see you soon.
